Reinvigoration of Traditional Wet Market as Catalyst for Urban Highrise Building
The location of the project is the Old Wet Market at Datuk Keramat in Kuala Lumpur. There are few issues the current site facing which are social inequality, low-income group, and bad economic due to the bad condition of the wet market. The design approach in this project is similar to Singapore's wet market design approach which is Microcosm. The first objective is to improve the condition of the existing wet market to attract more visitors outside of this area. Secondly is to propose a highrise building to increase the spending power in that area and also boosting the economy of the wet market. Lastly is to propose a centralise green for social interaction and improve the environment. The researcher has a daring approach of creating a centralise green that benefits the wet market, social interaction, and the environment. The centralise acted as the core of the project that has a part of the wet market, a centralise green for the highrise building, and a part for the community to "lepak". The project also included a full proposal for the Integrated Building System.
