University as the last stop for youngster before stepping into the real world. As modernization and monetization in the education sector, more rules and regulations, requirements, and guidelines set by relevant authority. Most of the time, the real meaning of education has been forgotten which shaped the current way of how university set up in Malaysia. As a result, fenced up, and confined compound as university campus. Education and knowledge transfer should not apply any barrier or happened in a confined compound. It should be free and knowledge transfer can happen anywhere at any time. Also due to modernization and urbanization, local government tend to focus on the development of first-tier city, second and third tier town are being neglected and underdeveloped. Some of these second and third-tier cities are where community first laid roots and earlier architecture style applied. Due to concentration development of first tier city, we are losing trace of all these identical cultures, historical architecture values, and heritages in second and third tier town. One example being the Taiping Town in Perak, Malaysia where sign of losing historical architecture buildings and depleting economy of the town. In an effort of making the university campus without a confined compound and rejuvenating Taiping town, urban adaptive reuse being the main concept in this thesis proposal. Juxtaposing a new element into an existing town to link up the past to support the future needs. This thesis proposal aims to seek for a possible breakthrough for a sustainable town development by introducing the ‘city-campus’ university as the typology.
